Eligible Participants

USET Member Tribal Nation Affiliated Youth (13-20 Years Old)

Rules and Restrictions
  1. Artwork must relate to the book themes of building a sense of self, cultural identity, and Tribal sovereignty.
  2. Book title: Becoming Me: A Guide to Self-Care for Native Youth. Please include the title in the submitted design.
  3. Primary Colors: red, yellow, black, grey with secondary colors of your choice.
  4. Cover art size: 8.75” wide x 11.25” tall (including 0.25” bleed). Artwork should be vertical (portrait) orientation.
  5. Artwork must be the artist’s own work and be an original concept that is not a copy of anyone else’s copyrighted material or created by AI software.
  6. Only one submission per participant.
  7. If you are under the age of 18, your submission serves as your representation that your parent or legal guardian consent to such submission.
  8. Prior to being announced the winner, the USET Member Tribal Nation to which the winning contestant is affiliated will be consulted to ensure that sharing the image is culturally appropriate.
  9. Prior to being announced the winner, and, in exchange for the $500 prize, the winning contestant and, where necessary, their parent or legal guardian will be required to sign an agreement whereby USET will become owner of the artwork.
  10. Submission
    1. Digital (electronic) artwork should be submitted online as an image (JPG, JPEG or PNG) or PDF. If a digital submission wins the contest, the artist must provide a vector file (EPS, AI or SVG) or press quality PDF.
    2. Physical (hard copy) artwork should be submitted online in the form of at least one photograph of the artwork and up to three photographs as needed to capture the entirety and intricacy of the artwork. One photo must contain the full artwork and the two optional photos may be used to show alternate angles and/or details. Artwork photos may be submitted as PDFs, JPGs, JPEGs or PNGs only. If a physical submission wins the contest, the artist must mail USET the original artwork.
  11. The winner will be selected no later than May 31 and will be notified via email.
