WHCNAA Webinar: Opportunities for Indigenous People: Indigenous-Led Tourism

You are cordially invited to a webinar on Opportunities for Indigenous Peoples: Indigenous-Led Tourism, co-organized by the White House Council on Native American Affairs (WHCNAA) Committee on International Indigenous Issues and the FSC Indigenous Foundation. The webinar will take place on Thursday, July 14, at 12:00pm – 1:30pm ET.
This webinar will highlight the conditions or approaches that have made Indigenous tourism initiatives in the Americas a success economically, socially, culturally and environmentally.
A panel will present case studies in the US and in Latin America, sharing the economic instruments that have been used by Tribes and Peoples to help realize the economic benefits of tourism and provide a more direct role for them in economic development, and highlighting how tourism development supports community economic development. The panel includes:
- Sherry L. Rupert, CEO, American Indian and Alaska Native Tourism Association
- Seleni Matus, Executive Director, International Institute of Tourism Studies at George Washington University, Indigenous Tourism Collaborative of the Americas
- Graciela Coy, President, Ak’ Tenamit, Sustainable Tourism Network of the Mayan Caribbean – Guatemala
