Who should attend: Public health staff, chronic disease prevention staff, health educators, agriculture and foodways staff, Native chefs, Tribal leaders, farmers market staff/volunteers, etc.

We are excited to announce an informative and interactive webinar entitled “A Taste of Sovereignty: Exploring the interconnected concepts of food sovereignty,” which refers to the right of people to healthy and culturally appropriate food produced through ecologically sound and sustainable methods, food justice, which encompasses equal access to healthy, affordable, and culturally appropriate food; and food security, which entails having reliable access to a sufficient quantity of affordable, nutritious food.

Objectives:

  • Explore various resources designed to support food sovereignty initiatives within communities.
  • Establish sustainable partnerships and incorporate cultural values into mission statements.
  • Define the concepts of food sovereignty.
  • Examine policy ideas and strategies for food sustainability.

Our guest speaker will be Ms. Hayley Breazeale, Food Sovereignty Coordinator, SC., Master Gardener, and Diabetes Lifestyle Coach with the Catawba Nation Wellness Department.
