USDA Tribal Webinar: “Biological Control of Invasive Species: Guide to the Research and Regulatory Process
Classical Biological Control is a pest management tactic where they evaluate, import, and release natural enemies of invasive species to reduce their populations, thereby reducing the impact caused by the pest. During the upcoming Tribal webinar, USDA APHIS will explain the process and steps from the moment an invasive species is identified as a target for biological control to the regulatory decisions to approve or deny the release of biological control agents into the environment of the U.S. This webinar will provide attendees with a basic understanding of the complex, multi-jurisdictional, scientific regulatory process that is undertaken to evaluate natural enemies of invasive pests for release of into the United States for the purpose of biological control. The webinar will also cover the basic ecological principles behind biological control, the research process to find and evaluate natural enemies of invasive species, and the regulatory process to determine safety of exotic agents for introduction into the United States. There will also be a question-and-answer session.
