USACE – Tribal Webinar on the new National Levee Safety Program

for a Tribal Webinar on the new National Levee Safety Program.
The goal of this program, which is being co-led by USACE and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), is to create an integrated framework for managing reliable levee systems and improving community resiliency in areas behind all levees throughout the Nation.

In addition to launch of the program, a Federal Register Notice has been released announcing the Committee on Levee Safety (attached) and a request for applications for Committee members. The purpose of this new Committee is to provide advice to USACE and FEMA on a broad range of issues, topics and alternatives related to the development of the National Levee Safety Program. The Committee will be compromised of 14 voting members, appointed by the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works, with expertise in levee safety. Members will include eight (8) representatives of state levee agencies, two (2) private sector representatives, two (2) local or regional government representatives and two (2) Tribal representatives. USACE and FEMA will serve as non-voting members on the Committee.
Applications must be submitted on or before March 22, 2022.
