U.S. Forest Service Tribal Forum – Proposed National Policy: Monitoring on National Forest System Lands

USDA Forest Service Ecosystem Management Coordination program representatives will share information and be available to discuss the proposed national policy and Tribal implications.
The proposed policy would create a new chapter in the Forest Service Manual (Chapter 2040 –National Forest System Monitoring) to provide guidance for the development and implementation of monitoring programs to support land management decisions and adaptive management of National Forest System lands. Guiding principles include:
- Be strategic and efficient
- Track and meet monitoring commitments
- Use accurate, reliable, and relevant western science and traditional knowledge
- Leverage internal and external partnerships
- Commit to technology and data management
