Tribal Traffic Safety Initiative, Four Corners and Beyond
Join us for a virtual event on November 2, 2021 at 12 p.m. ET/9 a.m. PT.
Join the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for a live virtual event on November 2, at 12 p.m. ET/9 a.m. PT. The event will focus on the United States Department of Transportation’s launch of a tribal traffic safety initiative to reduce traffic crashes, injuries, and deaths in tribal — including rural and frontier — communities.
Nationally, Native Americans experience higher death rates from traffic crashes than any other race or ethnic group. A crash data analysis by NHTSA indicates Native Americans are especially at risk for fatal car crashes in the Four Corners region, which is comprised of the states of Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and Utah. NHTSA’s launch of the initiative is focused on the area where these states converge in the Four Corners, and beyond.
Dr. Steven Cliff, NHTSA’s Deputy Administrator, will be joined at the event by:
• Arlando Teller, Deputy Assistant Secretary, Tribal Affairs, USDOT
• Milo Booth, Director, Tribal Affairs, USDOT
• Michael Sandoval, Secretary, New Mexico DOT
• Michael Chavarria, Governor, Santa Clara Pueblo
• Kevin Killer, President, Oglala Lakota Nation
