Tribal Consultation on Proposed Legislative Changes to the Tribal Homeland Security Grant Program (virtual)

November 9, 2022 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm CST

FEMA will host a virtual tribal consultation on the proposed legislative changes to the Tribal Homeland Security Grant Program managed by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in accordance with the Homeland Security Act of 2002. Senior leadership from FEMA’s Grant Programs Directorate (GPD) will lead the consultation. GPD provides grants to prepare state, local, tribal, and territorial governments and first responders, as well as non-profit organizations and port and transit system owners/operators, to measurably improve capability and reduce the risks from manmade and natural disasters. Topics of discussion include:

  • An overview of the previous feedback received from tribal leaders and representatives regarding FEMA preparedness grant programs;
  • The proposed legislative changes to amend the Homeland Security Act of 2002 to increase tribal access to the Tribal Homeland Security Grant Program; and
  • Tribal feedback on the proposed legislative changes.

The framing paper with questions for tribal leader consideration will be made available soon on: www.fema.gov/about/tribes/consultations.
