Please join the National Indian Health Board (NIHB) for a Pre-Application Webinar on the funding opportunity, Supporting AI/AN maternal health through Tribally-Led MMRCS on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at 2:00 PM Eastern Time.
American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) women are cherished pillars of their families. However, they are two to three times more likely to die of pregnancy or birth complications than non-Hispanic white women. Maternal mortality review committees (MMRCs) are multidisciplinary committees that can identify recommended actions to reduce AI/AN maternal deaths and to improve wellness of Native mothers.
While these committees are extremely valuable, there are currently no Tribally-led MMRCs and very few state MMRCs have Tribal representation. This webinar will review a new funding opportunity from NIHB for Tribes, Tribal consortia, and Tribal organizations who are interested in exploring MMRCs. Through this opportunity grantees will participate in a self-assessment over an 8-month period to explore key components of Tribally-led MMRCs and assess their readiness to establish and sustain an MMRC.
NIHB staff will be available to answer questions about the funding opportunity and application process. Tribes, Tribal consortia, and Tribal organizations who are interested in MMRCs and preventing maternal deaths are encouraged to attend.
