National Indian Country Training Initiative Online Training | Culture as Prevention: Using Elders to Enrich Child and Youth Programs

September 19 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm CDT

September 19, 2024, 2:00 – 3:30 pm Eastern
Register by September 17

One universal principle across Tribal nations is the reverence with which Tribal Elders are held along with the knowledge they possess of Tribal cultural practices.  Connection of Tribal Elders with children and youth in various Tribal programs including child welfare, juvenile justice and more has proven to be valuable for both Elders and children and youth.

In this webinar, participants will learn more about how several Tribes are utilizing Tribal Elders within their programs, as well as the Americorps Senior Program which connects Elders as volunteers with Tribal programs which need them. Faculty will include Tribal representatives who currently have Elders involved in their programs, and from Americorps Senior Program Deputy Director and the Program Manager who serves as the lead for Tribal nations.

This webinar is the fourth in a series titled Culture as Prevention. The training series is the result of a partnership between DOJ’s Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention and the National Indian Country Training Initiative. This webinar is available to all federal, state, local and Tribal juvenile justice, and social service professionals, as well as those interested in exploring incorporating Tribal Elders in their systems involving children.

There is no tuition charge for this training.
