The Civil Rights Division within the Department of Justice was created following the enactment of the Civil Rights Act of 1957. The Civil Rights Division works to uphold the civil and constitutional rights of all persons in the United States, particularly some of the most vulnerable members of our society. One area the Civil Rights Division is very focused on is duties and responsibilities to Indian Country and Native American people. The Civil Rights Division is always looking for additional outreach and educational opportunities concerning Native American issues within the Division, within the Department of Justice, and throughout the country. Accordingly, this webinar will provide information about the work of the Division and will focus on its efforts in the areas of Voting, Disability Rights, Education and Employment as they pertain to American Indians and Alaska Natives. The target audience for this webinar is federal, state and tribal criminal justice and social service professionals, civil rights advocates, citizens and elected and traditional leaders.
