On July 9, the Department of Interior announced $120 Million available to Tribal Nations through the Bureau of Indian Affairs Tribal Climate Resilience (TCR) Annual Awards Program. Last year, $120.8 Million was also awarded, resulting in $3.6 Million to USET-member Tribal Nations. This FY24 competition is expected to be the last with funding increases from recent major legislation, so we really encourage Tribal Nations to apply this year!
The solicitation for proposals outlines three categories for funding including: Category 1 – Planning (250K Max); Category 2 – Implementation (4Mil Max); Category 3 – Relocation, Managed Retreat, Protect-in-Place (RMP) Staff (450K over 3 years). Each Tribal Nation may submit multiple applications and may be awarded up to one award per category. Priority will automatically be given to Tribal Nations who not received awards over $100K from TCR in the past.
Support and technical assistance for preparing applications are available!
- Check this page and the BIA TCR Awards page for additional information about upcoming technical assistance webinars (one scheduled for July 30) and weekly office hours with each BIA region’s TCR coordinator
- Eastern region TCR coordinator: Angela Waupochick (angela.waupochick@bia.gov)
- Reach out to Steph and Tyler (scourtney@usetinc.org and teverett@usetinc.org) to see how we can help with the development and/or review of your proposal(s)
- Keep in mind that USET, upon discussion and agreement, can also support the activities funded by this program – for example, if you would like staff across your Tribal Nation to participate in a training or collective meeting about climate resilience, we could help organize and facilitate such trainings or meetings. Let’s talk about it!
- Watch informational videos from last year’s solicitation including this BIA Grant Writing 101 recording and these Tribal Climate Resilience Stories from past awardees.
- Expand or freshen up your skills with grant proposal resources like these handouts from NOAA
We encourage interested Nations to submit their applications several weeks before the deadline so BIA can let you know if there are any missing elements or format errors and leave time to correct those errors.
