HHS OCR is consulting with Tribes on a proposed rulemaking revising the regulations for Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, which prohibits discrimination based on disability in programs and activities that are Federally funded or Federally operated. The attached Dear Tribal Leader Letter highlights key aims of the proposed rulemaking in clarifying requirements, ensuring civil rights protections, and establishing enforceable standards. The proposed rule also better aligns the Rehabilitation Act with the Americans with Disabilities Act and case law developments. OCR will hold the consultation on October 6 at 2:00pm ET (register HERE), and will accept written comments until November 13 at www.regulations.gov (RIN 0945-AA15).
