DOJ Office for Victims of Crime Tribal Consultation

On behalf of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Justice Programs (OJP), Office for Victims of Crime (OVC), you are invited to take part in the upcoming Consultation on the Tribal Set-Aside from the Crime Victims Fund (TVSSA) for Fiscal Year 2023.
The Consultation on OVC’s administration of the TVSSA will be held on Wednesday, November 9th from 2:00−4:00 p.m., Eastern time. An informational framing paper and a report on the management of the Tribal Set-Aside will be provided in advance of the Consultation for your consideration. To register, visit this link.
Consultation testimony can be provided by:
- an elected Tribal leader,
- an appointed Tribal leader, or
- someone designated by an elected or appointed Tribal leader. (Designation must be provided in writing.)
When registering for the teleconference via the link above, you will be asked to provide your name, email, Tribal leadership position, Tribal affiliation, and whether you would like to provide written and/or verbal testimony. If you are a Tribal leader’s designee to provide testimony, provide a Delegation of Authority letter signed by the elected or appointed Tribal leader on Tribal letterhead or have the elected or appointed Tribal leader send an email to ovctribalsetaside@usdoj.gov to confirm your authorization to testify on behalf of the Tribe. Additional instructions for how to submit your testimony will be available after you register. Written testimony will be accepted until December 16, 2022.
In addition to the virtual Consultation, OVC plans to host an in-person Listening Session before the 17th National Indian Nations Conference scheduled for December 6–9, 2022, at the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians Reservation in Palm Springs, CA. This session will be held on December 6, 2022, from 9:00–11:30 a.m., and will provide interested persons an opportunity to offer feedback about the TVSSA program, and other matters to enhance services for victims of crime within Tribal communities.
