The black section and West direction of the medicine wheel represents Physical Health. We support our Tribal Nation partners to provide physical health activities to raise awareness and understanding on the impact of past trauma and the importance of physical well-being. Additionally, we are able to provide funding through grants to help support Tribal Nation partners in providing prevention programs around physical activity and connecting to their cultures.
For example, one of our behavioral health Tribal Nation Partners hosts an event titled “Healing of the Canoe.” It is held each summer to provide a sense of belonging through cultural and community-based activities. The canoe is a metaphor, providing youth with the skills and tools needed to navigate their journey through life without being pulled off course by alcohol and drugs.
