The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Division of Quality Improvement and Innovation Models (DQIIMT) in collaboration with the CMS Division of Tribal Affairs is hosting a virtual listening session June 9, from 2–3:30 p.m. Eastern, to receive feedback from tribal leaders and tribal health directors on current Quality Improvement Network – Quality Improvement Organization (QIN-QIO) activities within CMS. Examples of QIN-QIO activities include programs that address patient safety, patient readmissions, infection prevention and control, hospital-associated conditions, and quality rating systems among others. These programs work to meet the CMS Strategic Plan, which focuses on these six pillars:
- Advance Equity: Advance health equity by addressing the health disparities that underlie our health system.
- Expand Access: Build on the Affordable Care Act and expand access to quality, affordable health coverage and care.
- Engage Partners: Engage our partners and the communities we serve throughout the policy making implementation process.
- Drive Innovation: Drive Innovation to tackle our health system challenges and promote value-based, person-centered care.
- Protect Programs: Protect our programs’ sustainability for future generations by serving as a responsible steward of public funds.
- Foster Excellence: Foster a positive and inclusive workplace and workforce, and promote excellence in all aspects of CMS’s operations
To make sure CMS QIN-QIO efforts reflect the needs and priorities of those living and working in tribal nations, CMS invites you to join the All Tribes Listening Session to provide your feedback on its current QIN-QIO efforts and help improve CMS’s approach to advancing health equity for American Indians and Alaska Natives (AI/ANs). Tribal leaders, tribal health directors, and AI/AN individuals with health care experience working within AI/AN communities are encouraged to attend the listening session.
During the listening session, we would like to get your feedback on the following questions:
- Are you familiar with QIN-QIO efforts in your area and do you have experience working with them?
- If you are familiar with QIN-QIO efforts, what has gone well and what can be improved? What would you like to see?
- If you are not familiar with QIN-QIO efforts, how could CMS better advance these efforts in your community?
- What can CMS do in collaboration with tribal partners to advance health equity through QIN-QIO efforts in your community?
- Are there existing gaps in the health care delivery system for your community and do you have ideas on how the QIN-QIO program can help fill them?
