Proposed National Policy: Timber Management

USDA Forest Service Forest Management, Rangelands Management, and Vegetation Ecology program representatives will share information and be available to discuss the proposed national policy and Tribal implications.

The proposed policy would amend the Forest Service Manual (Chapter 2470 –Timber Management) and select Handbooks (Cubic Scaling, Timber Cruising, Silvicultural Practices, Timber Sale Preparation, and Renewable Resources) to provide direction for:

• Preparation of timber sale projects on National Forest System lands
• Timber cruising and scaling of forest products on timber sales
• New silviculture certification process
• Use of plant materials from genetically modified trees on National Forest System lands
