The National Indian Health Board (NIHB) will be hosting two Opioid Tribal Laws and Policies Discussion Groups. Compared to other racial and ethnic groups, American Indians and Alaska Natives have the highest rate of substance use. There are some protective factors against substance use such as culture, which serves as one of the pathways to healing, health, and wellness. In addition to culture, Tribal policies and laws can assist with opioid use prevention.
The purpose of the discussion groups is to gather feedback on Tribal laws and policies related to monitoring opioid prescribing rates and clinical procedures. Input from the discussion groups will be used to identifying current gaps in Tribal laws and policies and help to inform policy recommendations.
Who should attend?
This discussion group is open to any interested person, but is likely most relevant to Tribal public health professionals, Tribal health departments, and Tribal behavioral health providers and staff.
