Restarting Tourism Marketing in Indian Country

AIANTA is hosting a free tourism marketing workshop in Idaho. As tribal nations and tourism enterprises and Native-owned businesses re-open to visitor traffic, a top need identified by these businesses is how to maximize their outreach to potential visitors. This workshop will show how tribes can grow their cultural tourism efforts through website development and by maximizing audio and video throughout their marketing efforts.

Additionally, AIANTA CEO Sherry L. Rupert and AIANTA Tribal Content Producer Bruce Rettig will showcase AIANTA’s collaborative efforts in partnership with the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail in developing cultural heritage content and itineraries for the Trail’s new geotourism website LewisandClark.travel and AIANTA’s consumer site NativeAmerica.travel.

1:30 p.m. – Remarks on Cultural Tourism Along The Lewis & Clark Trail

In partnership with AIANTA, the National Park Service is working with tribes adjacent to the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail to develop cultural heritage content and itineraries for the Trail’s new travel website LewisandClark.travel. The project will bring together businesses, attractions, landmarks and other points of interest on and around the trail to help promote sustainable tourism.

1:45 p.m. – Update with Visit Idaho

Introduction to Visit Idaho and Montana Office of Tourism staff and resources. These organizations work to enhance visitors’ experiences by providing information, resources and trip planning tools that inspire travel and consistently convey the exceptional quality of Idaho and Montana.

2:00 p.m. – Developing a Successful Cultural Tourism Website

Whether you’re a tribe, tribal enterprise, small business owner or even an individual artisan, your website is your calling card to the world. This presentation will review some of the “best practices” in website design and show samples of successful tribal tourism websites and why they work so well.

2:30 p.m.. – Marketing Your Attractions Through NativeAmerica.travel and LewisandClark.travel

As AIANTA works with tribes adjacent to the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail to develop content and itineraries for LewisandClark.travel and NativeAmerica.travel, this presentation will show how to list your Tribe, tribal enterprise, or tribally-owned business on both these sites.

3:30 p.m. – Using Audio and Video for Tours and Promotions

Audio and video provide excellent way to engage users and provide a better website experience. This presentation will provide tips on what to shoot, how to interview speakers, and how/where to promote completed work. Samples of successful videos and audio clips will be presented.

4:00 p.m. – Sharing Tourism Products / Developing Regional Marketing Opportunities
After hearing what tribes are working on, AIANTA will provide examples of how they might develop travel itineraries for potential visitors. Examples of successful local programs will be shown.
