FY12 Oral Health Promotion/ Disease Prevention Mini Awards for Oral Health
To encourage well planned health promotion/disease prevention (HP/DP) activities for oral health, the Nashville Area Dental Support Center (DSC) will award up to $1,500 per fiscal year per tribe for oral HP/DP projects. These non-competitive applications may be submitted from October 1, 2011 to December 31, 2011. United South and Eastern Tribes, Inc. Tribal Health Program Support staff will review and approve the applications. After approval, USET will notify the applicant of the results of the review with comments. Funds will be disbursed from USET beginning January 13, 2012. Continuation of previously funded mini-award projects is acceptable. Clinical Service Support
The DSC provides many services to support the entire dental team. Administrative procedures, clinical protocols, environment safety and quality improvement tools may be found in the Policy and Procedures link. Health Promotion/Disease Prevention
Both clinical and community prevention programs are a routine part of care in IHS clinics.The DSC provides support for Dental Clinics, Medical Staff's, and Community Leaders to support oral health prevention services. Look in Manuals to find Program Planning guidance, Fluoride Varnish recommendations, and Head Start resources. In the Guidelines section, you can find current CDC Fluoride recommendations, CDC Community Resources link and Healthy People 2010 Oral Health Objectives. The Educational Resources link has strategies for community events, Dental Fast Facts, Children's Activity Sheets for classroom as well as clinic instructions.
The DSC is committed to ongoing professional training and providing the most recent training materials necessary for dental staff continuing education as well as materials that can be used for patient and community education, See our Training link for Power point presentations regarding diabetes, Early Childhood Caries and Infant Oral Health. The Dental Sealant Guide provides information to health professionals, program administrators, educators, policymakers, and others about the use and application of dental sealants. The resource guide is divided into three sections. The first section lists journal articles appearing in the peer-reviewed literature from December 2007 to March 2010. The second section describes materials published from 2006 to 2010, including brochures, fact sheets, guides, kits, manuals, protocols, and reports. The third section lists federal agencies, resource centers, and national professional associations that may serve as resources.
