Environmental Liaison Office
The USET Environmental Liaison Office (ELO) was created in 2004 to assist member Tribes in addressing environmental concerns, such as clean and safe drinking water, health community ecosystems, and climate change impacts to Tribal homelands, traditional practices, and overall economic well being. The protection of natural resources on Tribal lands is integral in restoring and maintaining the heart, spirit and soul common to every USET Tribe and uniquely expressed by each Tribal member.
In addition to technical assistance in environmental related activities, such as grant writing, quality assurance document development, dissemination of environmental information and technical support to the Natural Resources Committee, the ELO also administers the Operator Certification Program and related drinking water activities, solid waste training assistance, USDA APHIS programs, and the USET Tribal Emergency Mutual Aid Compact. In FY2010, the ELO will initiate an EPA Exchange Network Program focused on water quality data management and exchanges.
